Alien Health
An exercise game to teach youth about macro-nutrition in common foods
Alien Health is a Kinect One PC game that uses embodied motion to select foods for a malnourished alien. Choosing the right food to feed the alien increases its mood and gives it energy to pilot a BioShip, choosing the better food increases its performance.
In a pilot study conducted in the Limburg Province of The Netherlands, students at schools played Alien Health and had better short-term knowledge of the five most important macronutrients of foods, and were better able to distinguish the healthier food item out of two options over time.

As Art Director and Game Artist on this project, my role was to develop a cohesive visual style that effectively communicated and supported the game’s educational goals. The game was designed to help players make rapid food choices, teach them about five key nutrients in common foods, foster discussion on what makes a food healthier, and introduce socio-collaborative learning principles.
